In this interview, we talk to Family Services’ team lead Clarissa Tufts. She oversees the team’s direction and day-to-day operations, and works with the clinical counsellor, guidance counsellors and members of the contact assistance team who provide support to learners, families, educators and other members of the SelfDesign community.

SelfDesign learning consultant and Support Education Services Team Coordinator Corinne Metcalfe brings to her role deep and broad experience working with children with special needs. This includes nine years as a SelfDesign learning consultant, 15 coordinating programs for children with special needs at schools around the world, and over 10 years as a special education teacher and inclusion consultant in Alberta. At SelfDesign®, we believe that every learner has a unique voice, and our inclusive kindergarten to grade 12 program is committed to listening to each and every child – however they are able to communicate. Every learner with special needs is unique, and we reflect this by providing programming that is personalized or individualized to each learner.
Our inclusive Kindergarten to Grade 12 program provides equal access to opportunities for all learners, including specific support services for learners of all ages with special needs. Your child is unique so we adapt our programming to them.
At SelfDesign Learning Community, we provide services for all learners who need additional support to maximize their learning opportunities. Our learning consultants, who are all BC certified educators, work with learners, families and SelfDesign’s Family Services team to identify and support each learner’s individual needs.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we talked to SelfDesign Counsellor Franya Jedwab about what she does as part of the Family Services team. Having been a SelfDesign parent, Franya understands what is involved in learning at home and in the community, and draws on that to help support learners and families as a counsellor.
