This year, to enrich the at-home learning experience, SelfDesign Home Learning is providing learners and families with access to a suite of subscriptions to high-quality online learning opportunities.
Being able to connect to and interact with peers is an important part of the school experience. At SelfDesign Learning Community, we build that connection and interaction right into our core learning program.
“SelfDesign is a unique opportunity to pursue your interests in a different way,” SelfDesign graduate Erik says. “It’s also a great opportunity to find like-minded people – which could be hard to do otherwise – but SelfDesign provides the perfect opportunities for these connections to be made.”
SelfDesign employs the innovative Universal Design for Learning framework to provide learners with choice and flexibility in how they access material, engage with it and show what they know.
Although many families spend much of their time learning at home and in their community, when SelfDesign learners do use technology for learning, we take their online safety very seriously.
During Online Movement Camp, SelfDesign learners gathered online to connect their moves to their emotions and work their hip hip groove with professional dance and movement experts.
SelfDesign® Family Services strives to be “a steward of compassion and understanding within the SelfDesign community offering support to learners, families, Learning Consultants, mentors and contractors.” Given this, we are excited to be working with a group of keen grade 10–12 learners to launch SelfDesign’s own Gender Sexual Orientation Alliance (GSA).
In the traditional classroom setting, teachers have always used tests, grades and reports to assess learning. If those three words make you quiver, you’ll be relieved to learn about an alternative model that SelfDesign® uses that assesses learning through observing and about our learner-led philosophy that goes hand-in-hand with supporting a learner’s curiosities.
At SelfDesign®, at the core of our Kindergarten to Grade 12 online learning school, is the belief that learning happens all the time, and the learner is always at centre. Learning stems from curiosity and each individual learner’s passion and interests, whether that's at home engaging with family during game night, or connecting with nature in an old-growth cedar forest... Learning happens everywhere.
